2015 Juror

 TCAA is excited to announce our 2015 juror, Suzy Jones. Suzy became the Executive Director of the ArtCentre of Plano in 2004. Prior to the ArtCentre she was on the staffs of the Dallas Museum of Art, the Crow Collection of Asian Art and The Women's Museum. She also taught Art History and Art Appreciation at Richland College and Collin College. Her interests include volunteering within the comunity, spending time with family and friends and travel. She and her daughter Sarah live in Plano.

About the Featured Artist Series

This is our third year to offer this opportunity to showcase Texas potters, sculptors and 'clayers' in a series of juried online solo exhibitions.

Selected TCAA members will have 10-20 images of their work displayed in an online solo exhibition, accompanied by an interview style article about their work.

TCAA members who enter the competition will be selected based on their Member Profile Pages. Selected TCAA Members will be announced at the end of the year, with online solo exhibitions scheduled over the following year.

2014 Juror: Lee Akins

We are very excited to have Lee Akins as our 2014 Featured Artist Series Juror!   

Lee Akins was born in Texas but spent most of his early years in Taiwan. He received his B.F.A. from the Dayton Art Institute, Dayton, Ohio in 1975 and M.F.A. from Southern Methodist University in Ceramics in 1986. He has taught ceramics at the college level for more than 30 years including Dallas County Community College and Colin College, Plano, TX. In 2008 he retired early and moved to Rinconada in northern New Mexico to become a full time studio potter. He currently teaches part-time at Santa Fe Clay and Northern New Mexico College, Espanola.


               

Lee coil builds terracotta, creating vessels and sculptures influenced by his time in Asia. His work has been featured in ceramic magazines and publications including an article in Ceramics Monthly, August/September 2006.
